Centretown Guest House is gay-owned and gay-operated. We are open all-year round. Laid-back comfort and ease envelops the weary, raring-to-go or ever-ready traveller. Centrally located to all activities and sights, the excitement of one of Canada's major cities is a stone's throw. We are but a few minutes walk to the waterfront where shopping, entertainment and museums are at your pleasure. The immediate neighbourhood includes banks, several restaurants (regular and fast food), a movie theatre, dry cleaners, drug store, bakery, supermarket, gym, churches, synagogue, gas station, health food store and other businesses. There is on-street parking and easy immediate access to major bus routes. We have lived in Halifax most of our lives. We established Centretown Guest House in 1993. 95% of our visitors are gay or lesbian; far and away most of them are from Europe, the United States and other foreign lands. The conflux of international travellers peppers the ambience and entices conversation. We have guests who return year after year. We are delighted to provide you with an orientation to Halifax—its culture, history, museums, theatre and other sites of interest and curiosity. A BBQ and kitchen privileges are available for those who wish to use them (providing you clean up). Laundry facilities (a washer and dryer) are also available for guest use during day time hours. You may cushion your feet in guest slippers as the house has hardwood floors. Pets may be permitted with prior consultation. We try to make our guests' stay as comfortable as possible. If you have any special requests, allergies, medical or dietary concerns, please let us know. Our driveway, unfortunately, cannot be used for guests as it is extremely narrow; it is a foot access for visitors. There is ample street parking on Oxford and Pepperell Streets. Scents
and Smoking We now provide guest Internet access in two ways. First is phone jack access for traveling laptop owners to connect to a local service. Second is the ability to use our computer to access your Hotmail, Yahoo, and other e-mail accounts. There is a sign-up sheet for half-hour intervals which ensure every guest will be able to have access without excessive waiting times, thereby maximizing your visit for other vacation interests. If you wish to use Centretown Guest House as an e-mail point of contact for family and friends, then they can e-mail you at centretown@ns.sympatico.ca. These e-mails will be printed promptly. Tourists from abroad can claim some of their taxes back providing they keep their receipts and fill out a simple form. Ask for the forms at tourist information centres. Exchange Reservations We accept cash, Mastercard, American Express, Visa, and money orders. Check-in time is between 5 and 6 p.m. On special request, we will do our best at accommodating irregular check-in times for air travellers. Check-out time is 10 a.m. We can provide storage space for luggage if your flight leaves later in the day. We suggest you make your reservations as soon as you decide you would like to stay with us. Tourism in Halifax is busy during the summer months. It is common for all accommodations in the city to be booked leaving travellers no option but to drive to Truro, an hour’s drive away.
