Stephen comes from an artistic family in Atlantic Canada. His grandmother, mother, aunt, brother and two sisters are all artistic and work in mediums of painting, drawings, stained glass, sculpture and pottery. Stephen did some paintings and work in stained glass until his health limited him to working in the medium of acrylic paintings. Since this redirected focus his paintings have become unique and blossomed. Stephen does not limit himself to the traditional painting style types but prefers to allow his brush to express itself without boundaries. His work is primarily with male nudes, however, will paint anything that inspires him. On occasion he will accept comissioned work but since he does not rely on this for his primary income, he tends to allow himself the scope of independence of painting from the heart. He says that painting is his play and that playtime should not have the shackles of project specific deadlines and narrow focus but be fun – “this,” he says, “allows creative juices to flow.” Stephen’s paintings are found in private collections in Canada, the United States, Australia, and Europe. |
